Frequently Asked Questions
Getting Started
-
The first step is filling out the form on our contact us page. We invite prospective families to visit, meet our educators, see the classrooms, and ask every question they have. Enrollment is based on availability. To get on our Prospective Families List, fill out the form on our Schedule a Tour page and we'll be in touch when openings are expected.
-
No prior homeschool experience is needed. Many of our families are new to homeschooling when they join. We're happy to walk you through how it works in Florida during your tour.
-
Our enrollment process typically begins in the spring for the following school year. Families on our Prospective Families List are contacted first when openings become available. We encourage interested families to get on the list early.
-
We require all families to tour before enrolling. This gives you a chance to meet our team and see our program in person, and gives us a chance to meet your family. Enrollment is offered based on availability following the tour.
-
We maintain a Prospective Families List. Families on the list are contacted when openings are expected, typically beginning in the spring. Add your family to the list on our Schedule a Tour page.
Program

We serve students from Kindergarten through 7th grade. Kindergarten enrollment begins at age 5. Our program is organized into four classroom groups: K–1, 2–3, 4–5, and 6–7.
-
Students in grades K–5 attend four days a week, Monday through Thursday, from 9AM to 2PM. Students in grades 6–7 attend three days a week, Monday through Wednesday, from 9AM to 2PM. Thursdays are intentionally left open for families to pursue additional co-op programs, electives, or activities.

We trust parents to know their child best. Placement decisions are made in partnership with families, and if there are concerns about a particular subject or level, our educators work with you to find the right fit. Many of the curricula we use also offer placement tests, which can be a helpful tool when there's uncertainty about where to start.

Freedom Academy operates as an LLC and is recognized by Step Up for Students as a part-time tutoring service. We are not a traditional accredited school. Florida homeschool families maintain their own homeschool status and are responsible for their own compliance requirements. Freedom Academy provides portfolio content and end-of-year evaluations to support those requirements.
-
Freedom Academy supports your homeschool compliance but does not replace it. Families must register as homeschoolers independently, either by filing a Notice of Intent with Brevard Public Schools, enrolling in a Personalized Education Program (PEP) through a scholarship provider, or registering with an umbrella school. FA provides portfolio content and end-of-year evaluations. Parents are responsible for retaining portfolios for two years and for meeting any additional requirements set by their chosen program.
-
We do not offer before or after care at this time. Our program runs 9AM to 2PM.
Students & Learning Needs
-
We proudly serve a diverse group of students with a variety of needs and learning styles. Small class sizes and experienced educators mean many students who struggled in traditional settings find their footing at Freedom Academy.
That said, our program is not staffed as a special needs or special education program. All students must be able to participate successfully and safely within our group classroom environment, which relies on standard teacher-student ratios and provides only minimal, general accommodations as part of our normal structure. We do not have the resources, training, or capacity to provide intensive one-on-one assistance, personal aides of any kind, or modifications that would fundamentally alter our program.
If your child has an IEP, 504, or medical need, please share that information on the Prospective Families form. We’ll have an honest conversation about whether Freedom Academy is the right fit before a tour is scheduled.
Faith & Values
-
Freedom Academy is built on a Christian worldview. Our faith is reflected in daily devotionals, our curriculum recommendations, and our belief that each child in our care is created by God. We recognize and celebrate Christmas and Easter and approach American history through the lens of the country's Christian founding.
We welcome families of all faith backgrounds. We do not require that families be practicing Christians, but we do ask that all families acknowledge our beliefs and agree to respect our freedom to practice them within the Freedom Academy program.
Parent Involvement
-
Parents are not involved in day-to-day classroom activities. However, as homeschooling parents, you remain the primary educator of your child and are responsible for your child's overall education and Florida compliance requirements. Occasionally we have opportunities for families to contribute to holiday parties or community events, but there are no required volunteer hours.
-
We do not have a formal absence policy, but we do ask that families are mindful of attendance. Our classrooms move as a group, and students who miss time are responsible for keeping up with the material covered. Because our program builds on itself, a student who falls behind can disrupt the flow for the whole class. We ask that families communicate with our team when their child will be out and that students return caught up and ready to continue with the group.
